MGA Films: New Projects

"The Great Dane Thor"
MGA films is currently seeking capital for a feature length film entitled "The Great Dane Thor" to be distributed in worldwide theatrical, Home Video, DVD and broadcast markets.  The Great Dane Thor is a warm family drama and coming-of-age tale based on the 1960's novel by Walter Farley (author of the famed Black Stallion series) that offers life lessons amidst the rustic mountains of Eastern Pennsylvania.

Synopsis of "The Great Dane Thor"
When a peaceful boy must team up with his father's violent Great Dane to catch dangerous poachers in the woods, his distant father hardly notices - until all of their lives are in jeopardy.

Twelve-year-old LARS NEWTON and his distant father WALTER NEWTON are unhappily growing apart.  Walter, a famous but reclusive novelist and troubled WWII Veteran, has become so distant that he rarely relates to anyone, especially his growing son.  Even Lars' good-natured and intelligent mother, ALICE, can't seem to succeed in drawing Walter back to the family.  The father's lonely days are spent working in his writer's room with his dog at his side, a massive Great Dane named Thor - a dog so powerful and uncontrollable that Lars has always found threatening.

The sensitive and inquisitive boy seeks solace in retreats to the woodlands that surround his home, where he discovers the wild beauty of life.  After witnessing a doe giving birth to rare twin white fawns, Lars builds a fort near the deer's hidden thicket with the help of an old half-Indian game warden, who offers his support to the lonely boy.  Lars continues to watch over the growing fawns, and when hunting season begins, his concern for the deer's safety multiplies with every gunshot that echoes through the valley.

When the Great Dane is unexpectedly shot by hunters - an action the boy worries he could have prevented - his parents insist that Lars take control of the injured dog and care for him.  Lars reluctantly obeys, and gradually begins to trust the dog.  Prompted by his mother, Lars begins to train Thor with obedience lessons and as he grows closer to the dog, he also gains new insight toward his father.

During frequent trips to his beloved woods with the dog now at his side, Lars discovers the identities of two dangerous poachers who have been threatening the woods in search of rare furs.  After a near run-in with the poachers during a violent storm, the boy senses the fawns he loves are in critical danger and finally confides to his father.  Touched by the boy's story and realizing that his own isolation has been the source of problems, Walter kindly reassures Lars and vows to help the following morning.

Unable to sleep that night, Lars gazes from his window at the darkened woods where he sees the flicker of a poacher's flashlight.  Desperate to check on the deer, the boy sneaks out into the night, taking the dog with him. They arrive in time to witness a shadowy figure shoot one of the twin white fawns dead.  In a fit of rage, Lars hurls himself onto one of the poachers.  Even with the help of Thor, Lars is unable to overcome the two men, and the boy and dog nearly lose their lives.  The father arrives at the battle scene just in time to save his son, and together the father, son, and Great Dane work together and triumph in a climactic fight.  Finally, the mysteries of the father's past are dissolved and the family discovers their deeper bonds and value for one another.
